Her ability to think in a different way than linearly as she learns the aliens’ language aids her in her ability to communicate with them. According to Arrival, Natalie Banks’ visions of her dead daughter do not contain flashback scenes, but rather memories from the future. The best film-makers show us how to comprehend what we just watched: Arrival does this by breaking the conventions of good film-making. Arrival’s first act establishes the stage for its release. The film is divided into two parts, the first of which is language. Arrival introduces you to the concept of self-reading in the third act. There is more than just a twist at the end of Arrival. The alien creatures disappear into space, leaving behind the “weapon” that Earth will use to save them when they need it most, as Louise Banks (Amy Adams) and Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) are overcome with awe as they watch the creatures vanish into space. As Coon explains, it’s an artistic expression of how difficult it can be to understand a language. His involvement in a sci-fi film was unusual. The study of the languages required a degree of creative license. Heptapods have some unique features, including the fact that spoken and written versions differ. She was brought on by the film’s producers to help write the script. Coon collaborated with linguist Charles Rhyne to create the spoken language inArrival, which she says accurately depicts this field. The aliens also say that they are not here to hurt humans, and that they want to help humans learn more about the universe.Ĭoon is a professor at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and is known for her research on linguistics. They say that they have chosen to communicate with Louise because she is a linguist, and they believe that language is the key to understanding humans. The aliens tell Louise that they are visiting Earth in order to learn about humans and their way of life. The film follows Louise’s efforts to learn the heptapod language and to understand the aliens’ purpose for coming to Earth. The aliens, who call themselves “heptapods,” have a language that Louise finds difficult to understand. Army to communicate with aliens who have landed on Earth in twelve spacecraft.
